As our eight-week summer collaboration with Community Stepping Stones comes to a close, I can’t help but feel incredibly proud of everything our young reporters have accomplished through WCSS—Welcome to Community Stepping Stones.
What began as an introduction to storytelling and media production quickly grew into something much bigger. Throughout the summer, students learned how stories are created, how to conduct interviews, work together as a production team, and confidently share their ideas using cameras, microphones, and other technology. Most importantly, they discovered that every voice matters and that their own experiences are worth sharing.
Over the past several weeks, our young reporters have created an amazing collection of stories. They’ve produced public service announcements encouraging everyone to keep our communities clean, interviewed members of the Tampa Police Department, shared artwork they’ve created, imagined superhero adventures, explored their campus, and celebrated the people and places that make their community special.
Watching their confidence grow with each passing week has been one of the most rewarding parts of this program. Students who were once hesitant to stand in front of a camera are now asking thoughtful questions, encouraging one another, and proudly sharing stories with family, friends, and the community.
As we prepare for our WCSS Film Festival, we’ll celebrate not only the finished videos but also the teamwork, creativity, curiosity, and friendships that made them possible. It’s a chance for families to see just how much these young storytellers have learned and accomplished together.
